This piece is a tufted love letter to the femmes who rocked gold hoops and doorknockers and set the vibe in the ’80s and beyond. Called “ghetto” back then, they were so much more than jewelry—they were statements. Adornment as resistance. A way to take up space, to say, “I’m here, and you’re gonna see me.” These pieces turned everyday style into power moves, letting Black women show up on their own terms. This rug blows them up to the size they’ve always deserved, a reminder that what they tried to shame us for was always gold.
